First Month Income on Teachers Pay Teachers

Money

Ever wonder how much people make on Teachers Pay Teachers?

Have you ever thought about selling your resources on Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT)? Honestly, I didn’t give it much thought until a few months ago. As a school-based SLP, I knew about Teachers Pay Teachers and I loved searching for freebies around the holidays to use with my students; however, I rarely purchased any products - I had only purchased 3 TpT products before becoming a seller!

There are a few reasons why I started selling on TpT, but first and foremost, I just wanted some extra cash. I had many friends getting married and I wanted to make a little money to offset the cost of gifts, bachelorette parties, and hotel rooms. My goal was to try to make $10 off of selling resources in my first month.

Once the thought of being a TpT seller popped into my head, it only took me about two days to come up with a store name, design a logo, sign up for the Basic Seller Account, and post my first free and paid products on March 5, 2020. From there, I waited 8 days for my first sale (it was really my second sale because my boyfriend wanted to support me and bought the first product... but that doesn’t really count).

I was so thrilled by first *real* sale that I immediately set up a Facebook page, an Instagram account, a Pinterest account, and bought the website domain for SLP to go. Looking back, it was a bit much to take on with only making $1.04, but I respect my hustle! Over the rest of that first month, I created about 5 more products and tried to gain some followers for my store and social media accounts.

I should also mention that the COVID-19 pandemic unexpectedly forced all schools to close 2 weeks into my TpT journey. Although we were no longer in school, teachers and SLPs were still searching for online materials for their students. I created 3 free products during this time to help ease the burden of SLPs trying to create digital materials to send home to students and their families. Teachers Pay Teachers also threw a site-wide sale near the end of March, which I participated in and listed my whole store as 20% off.

Although this was an unchartered time for educators, I did my best to balance my new distance learning responsibilities with my new TpT store. And a little over two weeks into selling my products, I upgraded to being a Premium seller on March 21, 2020.

When April 5th came around, I was so excited to check my Dashboard and see my earnings. In the first month, I made $73.82! Remember, my original goal was to only make $10! I was stunned and proud of myself. I mean, $73 doesn’t even cover my cable bill, but it was so satisfying to earn money off of something that I made and that I knew could help other SLPs.

First Month on TpT

During that first month, I definitely made mistakes and I still had a lot to learn. With that being said, I made way more money than I anticipated and I had fun doing it. I hope this was helpful to you if you are thinking about starting your own TpT store. I plan to write another update after 6 months of selling. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to leave a comment or email me!
